Sightseeing Around Miami Beach

MIAMI WAX MUSEUM - 13899 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. More than 40 huge lifelike scenes, depicting events of history, politics, sports and the movies in life-size figures. Open year around 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission charge. Same artists as Montreal and Quebec City Wax Museums. Come in anytime, continuous self-guided tour.

MONKEY JUNGLE - 22 miles south of Miami on U.S. No. 1. Open daily year around, 9:30 a.m., to 5:30 p.m. Hundreds of monkeys run wild while visitors watch from enclosures. The jungle houses the most complete collection in the Southwest of monkeys, apes, baboons and two big gorillas.

MIAMI PARROT JUNGLE - Just East of Downtown Miami 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail. Macaws fly about free in a natural Florida jungle and will often perch on the visitors arms for pictures. Macaws and Cockatoos perform hourly in the “Parrot Bowl” riding bicycles, roller skating, trapeze counting, adding, substracting, and many more outstanding feats. Scheduled shows. Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily and Sunday.

ANCIENT SPANISH MONASTERY - 16711 W. Dixie Hwy., North Miami Beach. Sunday 1 to 4 p.m., weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LION COUNTRY SAFARI - Florida’s newest tourist attraction is located in West Palm Beach, just off the Florida Turnpike. Exit 8 and 9. Here you will find that over 100 lions roam free, while you drive your car through the territory. You will see Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Elephants and the world’s largest white Rhino running free. Be sure and bring your camera.

MIAMI SEAQUARIUM - World’s largest tropical marine aquarium and home of TV and movie star “Flipper.” Killer whale, performing porpoises, divers hand feed giants of the deep, shark channel and world’s larges collection of rare fishes. Ride the Monorail for an aerial view of all 57 acres. Hydrofoil boat rides from lagoon. Continuous shows 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 10 min. south of downtown Miami on Rickenbacker Causeway. Children under 6 free.

VIZCAYA - 3251 South Miami Avenue, just south of Rickenbacker Causeway. Seventy room mansion of James Reering, Industrialist, furnished with old world antiques and rare art open every day in the year except Christmas Day. Hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hourly guided tours.
